Alright, like you most know, I've been part of staff for some time now and I'm online as a DM almost every day and keeping an eye on you all. I've seen some great RP around but there are things that I don't personally like and I think they make this server not as good place for RP as it could be. I'm throwing them out there on table to be talked about, because there are no rules against it.
First of all and biggest problem I see around is that players have WAY too many toons. This is something that will divide people and their opinions but read on and try to understand my point in this. When you have 6, 7 or even 8 toons, the depth of the character and RP disappears. Some toons you bring on just when a DM is running an event where he/she might fit and other than that, we don't see that toon. Ever. That's a problem. Toons clicking to their small circles and never even trying to make any new contacts. Why can't you just kee playing those 2 or 3 toons you have and make them meet new people, explore and just play with it? Why do you hold level 40 character sitting in some small town, waiting for someone to come to you for RP? Or why do you start a new character just to grind it to level 40 alone?
I understand that people want variety to their characters, but you can get enough variety with 3-4 toons. When a single player has 7 or 8 toons it makes the job hard for a DM too. I myself try to get everyone involved in storylines that I run and what on earth can I do if it comes down to a point where both toons are needed around at the same time? I know that kind of a situation is coming and I hate the idea of it completely.
I know I can't affect it any way, there wont be a rule limiting the amount of toons per player but I wish atleast someone around understands my points and limits his/her playing to those few "main" toons. If you want to grind your vault full of toons, stop playing on RP server and go play world of warcraft or something as mindless as that.
From this we get to the second point, RP. People, this is RP server. You don't get RP by standing alone in some forest or protecting a keep. What I see around is that there are 5 players IG and they are all by themselves somewhere out there, just waiting for someone to come to them and RP. That isn't going to happen. No one has a toon that's the center of the world, others don't have their toons there just to make your toon look good. Like one good player once said "The best roleplayer isn't the guy who looks the best in the group. The best roleplayer is the guy that makes the whole group look good." If you don't get the point, take a minute, sit in front of a mirror and think about it for a while.
Why is it so hard to go out there, make a small exception to the toons character just to get into RP with others? You all understand that though your toon might be a loner and sit in some small forest on god knows what part of the Nightlund highway it doesn't mean you're doing good job roleplaying. You might play your toon just the way you imagined it but it doens't mean it's good RP. Good RP ALWAYS takes other toons around you. It takes interaction with them and interaction with the world, which is what I try to provide as good as I can but I can't be there for everyone. And if you're alone in a tavern with 6 other players sitting outside roleplaying with each other, you can be damn sure that I'm not going to take control of the bartender and play with you.
I know you all can do hell of a good job roleplaying but you show it way too rarely, the idea of this post is to get you to shape up a bit and make this server the best place to roleplay. Our playerbase has been growing so fast that I couldn't have even imagined it few months ago when there regulary were maybe 3-4 people around, there are storylines going on again even some that affect and change the whole world and out godlike builder team is doing amazing job with the landscape and places to visit and see. We have great players that just don't give themselves the chance to shine or they do it wrong. RP posts on forum are good thing, they give DM chance to see what has been going on while he/she hasn't been around or just the idea of what is happening to each of your toons but let me tell you this; it pisses me off when only RP you see from some toons is just on the forum, never in the game. Why don't we just ask Sith stop hosting the server and do all of our RP here, is that what you people are looking for?
That's all I can think about right now and I'll add more whining if it pops back to my mind. I know some of you might get offended by this but the idea wasn't to bitch to you directly. If you get insulted by this, it's your own fault, not my intention.
I don't want to sound all negative, because after all, players are the biggest link that makes the server what it is. The staff here is for you guys but if you constantly make our job harder and don't come half way to us it burns our nerves and brings the motivation down. If you don't like some player, don't let it affect, just get out there and play with the toon, do whatever it takes to get RP on. I don't want to make events where I need to call everyone together to a place X and start it from there, I make random encounters and events when I see a fit moment in the middle of already going RP.
And as my last point, I thank everyone that has taken part of the "What lies within...?" storyline. You've all done great work during it but I don't see almost any RP done about it when there isn't some event going on. Talk about it, try to solve the puzzle and go on with it. I have a LOT more material coming towards you. But I thank you all already and can't wait to see how it all works out.
I wish there will be discussion about this and good points thrown out,
