Written documentation taken from the Measure of the Knighthood for use of the Aspirants and Squires of the Knighthood by Lady Anastasia Mercadior Nightbane.

Measure of the Crown

The Order of the Crown exemplifies the ideas of Loyalty and Obediance in all that a Knight is and all that a Knight does. Loyalty requires unquestioned obediance to a higher power and authority, as long as that power and authority follows and adheres to the precept set forth in the Oath and Measure.

A reason to play a knight character in Dragon Lance

One of the reasons that I find so interesting about playing a knight character in a DL setting (during the War of the Lance time period) is the state of disarray and apathy that surrounds the knighthood during this period. Throw in the War against the Dragon Armies and you have the perfect ingredients for series of wonderful and complex RP where the character can help to bring a stodgy group into a new era, and set a new course.

It does however require a great deal of patience and dedication ...

Historical Note

The Order of the Crown is the first step in the Knighthood, the Order any Knight must petition entrance to, in order to advance in the ranks. The Crown is commonly used as a symbol of feudal power, so it may seem strange that the "lowest" of the three Orders should have it as its standard. Legends provide several motivations, some practical, some mystical.

Historical Note

The Order of the Sword is the clerical branch of the Knights of Solamnia: the Knights of the Sword, both strong warriors and holy men devoted to their god Kiri-Jolith and to his father Paladine, are holy crusaders who fight all their life for the gods they pray, and for the people of Solamnia. They live up to the purest ideals of courage, heroism, and self-sacrifice. All their life, they strive to be the embodiment of these ideals, to be the champions of Paladine and ...

Historical Information

The Order of the Rose is the highest and most selective Order of the Knights of Solamnia. Only the most noble, experienced, and wise can ascend to its ranks. Wisdom and justice, prudence and moderation, compassion and fearless valour, outstanding morality: these are the least requirements, other than ancient nobility.

Background

Vinas Solamnus was a general of the army of Empire of Ergoth, who fought for them until he was sent to subdue a rebellion in Solamnia, which was at the time eastern Ergoth. After months of fighting, winter bogged down the campaign. In the months of inactivity, Solamnus studied the cause of the rebels, and found it to be just. He marched to Daltigoth, capital of Ergoth, he led his army in the Rose Rebellion or the War of Ice Tears. After defeating the Empire, he spent some time ...
