Lohtar Tanneman walks in silent respect to the gate of Goodbay, helmet off and weapon sheathed. He carries a large bag over his shoulder, when approaching the two guards at the gate the bag gently swings out and is placed upon the ground with what some might call reverence. Hearing the muffled sound of metal clanking, the guards turn to him with a curious eye. He remains holding his calm demeanor and bows slightly, “Gentlemen… I am returning the belongings of your fallen brothers in arms.”
The younger of the two begins to draw his blade and is quickly met with a frown from the elder of the guards, waving his actions off quickly. The elder guard steps forward, eyeing what can be seen of the large bag of armaments this man has just returned to their city. “What is the meaning of this stranger? Why is it you walk into this fair city with the belongings of Solamnic Knights?” His hand reflexively moves to the pommel of his own sword and rests there.
Lohtar, remaining relaxed, his arms at his side, states plainly, “Your comrades wanted to arrest and question me sir knight, I simply could not comply. The knights stated that if I did not go quietly then they would cut me down. This not being something I was readily agreeable to, we drew our weapons and fought in honorable combat. These men fought with great honor and should continue to be honored by your people for many years to come. I am simply here returning their belongings to the rightful family or to the knighthood, however your commander should see fit.”
The knights both shuffle uncomfortably, both of them now with their hand on the pommel of their swords. “You realize we should strike you down right here for your atrocities”, said the younger knight.
“No, considering his actions, it would not be honorable for us to do so. Though I do want to know, what did you do with the bodies of the fallen? I pray to Paladine you didn’t leave them to rot on the road”, said the other from under his flowing moustaches.
I did no such thing gentlemen”, replied Lohtar calmly. I built each of them an individual cairn so animals and carrion birds did not pick at them. For each I gave a warrior’s blessing and praised my goddess to watch over your honorable comrades. They rest in peace at a location disclosed in these documents.” He hands over a scroll sealed with the symbol of a five-headed dragon. “Give this to your commander; it is detailed information that can be used to find the gravesite of your knights as well as a map further denoting the location.” Each of the knights nod slightly, visibly showing surprise that this man is so incredibly calm, given what he is doing.
“Very well then,” stated the elder knight through clenched teeth, the commander shall be informed immediately.
“See that he does, good day to you gentlemen, pray to the queen our paths do not cross again.” Lohtar then spins on a heel and strides away confidently, his head held high. He listens for movement behind him and hears none, then mutters to himself when out of earshot, “This will not be the last time your knights’ possessions are returned, praise be to Takhisis.” He looks back only once to see the younger of the knights head off to deliver the message.
